Transport concessions

Adult travel concession

Concession fares available for travel on all public buses, the River Derwent Ferry, and Area Connect public transport services.

A discount of 50% off the full fare. A further 20% discount is applied when using a smartcard like Greencard, Transportme, or a 10-trip ticket, where available.

Eligibility:

  • An eligible concession card.
  • Aged 70 years and over.
  • Evidence of immigration status (EIS).
  • Residence Determination ImmiCard (RDI) issued by the Department of Home Affairs.
  • DVA Veteran - All Conditions (printed with War Widow).
  • Eligible adult students (full-time students attending secondary college, university, TasTAFE or Tasmanian College of English. Must carry relevant student identification).

Bass Strait Islands Age Pension Air Travel Subsidy

Age pensioners living on the Bass Strait Islands are eligible for a 50% rebate on one return trip to mainland Tasmania each financial year (1 July to 30 June).

Eligibility:

  • An eligible concession card.
  • Be 65 years of age or over.
  • Live on a Bass Strait Island.
  • Have already booked, paid for, and undertaken a return trip.

Bruny Island ferry concession

Discounted SeaLink Bruny Island ferry fares are available if the driver of the vehicle travelling on the ferry holds an eligible concession card. The card must be presented at check-in to receive the discount or full-fares apply.

Companion Card (public bus and River Derwent ferry

The cardholder’s companion receives free bus travel when accompanying the cardholder who pays their own fare.

Passenger must show their Companion Card for companion to travel free.

Disability Parking Permit

Through the use of a valid Transport Access Scheme issued Disability Parking Permit, the assigned member may use designated disability parking bays and is entitled to extended parking time in areas controlled by parking signs, including parking meters.

Eligibility:

  • Be a permanent resident of Tasmania.
  • Have a permanent physical disability that severely restricts their physical mobility (it cannot be temporary or corrected by recognised surgery or treatment).
  • Completion of a Transport Access Scheme application form, including a medical component to be completed by a medical practitioner registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Eligibility does not consider the status of a person’s driver's licence, the availability of, or proximity to, public transport.

Taxi Subsidy Program - 50 per cent concession

With a Transport Access Scheme issued Taxi Subsidy Program Smartcard, the assigned member receives a concession on the cost of taxi travel in Tasmania.

A 50 per cent fare subsidy, up to a maximum of $25 per single journey, applies.

Eligibility:

  • An eligible concession card.
  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of Tasmania.
  • Have a permanent physical disability that severely restricts their physical mobility (it cannot be temporary or corrected by recognised surgery or treatment.

Eligibility does not consider the status of a person’s driver's licence, the availability of, or proximity to, public transport.

Taxi Subsidy Program - 60 per cent concession

With a Transport Access Scheme issued Taxi Subsidy Program Smartcard, the assigned member receives a concession on the cost of taxi travel in Tasmania.

A 60 per cent fare subsidy, up to a maximum of $30 per single journey, applies.

Eligibility:

  • An eligible concession card.
  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of Tasmania.
  • Have a permanent physical disability that severely restricts their physical mobility (it cannot be temporary or corrected by recognised surgery or treatment.
  • The applicant must be permanently wheelchair reliant.
  • Completion of a Transport Access Scheme application form, including a medical component to be completed by a medical practitioner registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Eligibility does not consider the status of a person’s driver's licence, the availability of, or proximity to, public transport.

Accepted medical practitioners do not include Dental, Pharmacy or Medical Radiation practitioners.

Vision Impaired Travel Pass

A Vision Impaired Travel Pass provides free travel on some public transport services to assist people who are vision impaired.

Free travel may apply to the holder of a Vision Impaired Travel Pass, their attendant and/or accompanying mobility instructor authorised by Guide Dogs Tasmania.

Eligibility:

  • An eligible concession card.
  • Completion of a Vision Impaired Travel Pass application form - Applicant Information with evidence of a Tasmanian residential address.
  • Provide evidence of visual impairment in Part B by:
    • Providing a copy of your current concession card issued on the basis of blindness, or
    • Having an ophthalmologist complete the Ophthalmologist Assessment and Details section.
  • Attach one colour passport-quality and size photo.
