Electricity concessions
Annual electricity concession
The annual electricity concession provides a daily discount to eligible customers as a cents per day rate. The current concession is 184.347 cents per day.
Eligibility:
- Eligible concession card holders.
- ImmiCard (Bridging Visa E) holders.

Embedded network electricity concessions
Includes low-income rebate, medical cooling or heating, and life support concession.
The Tasmanian Government provides electricity concessions to eligible residents who live in an embedded electricity network and do not receive an electricity concession from an electricity retailer or embedded network operator.
Embedded networks may operate in retirement villages, caravan parks and residential complexes where the site owner or network operator supplies and bills residents for electricity.
Eligibility - low income
- A low-income Health Care Card issued by Services Australia.
- A Pensioner Concession Card issued by Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
- An eligible Bridging E visa ImmiCard.
- A Tasmanian Concession Card for community detention.
Eligibility - medical cooling or heating
- Have an eligible medical condition that requires cooling or heating.
- Hold a low-income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card issued by Services Australia.
- Have the medical condition certified by a medical practitioner.
Eligibility – life support
- You or someone who lives with you must use an approved home-based life support device at your principal place of residence.
- A medical practitioner must certify that the device is required.
What you need to apply
You will need to provide:
- evidence of your identity and eligibility
- a recent itemised electricity bill from your embedded network operator
- any required medical certification
- bank account details in your name
- a bank statement or account confirmation letter verifying those details.

Heating allowance
The Heating Allowance is a payment of $56 per year paid in two payments of $28. Payments are made under the Pensioners (Heating Allowances) Act 1971.
Eligibility:
- Means tested (income and assets).
- Hold eligible concession card.
A single pensioner cannot have more than $1,750* in cash assets and married/de facto pensioners cannot have more than $2,750*.

Life support concession
The life support concession is a daily discount to eligible people who use an approved life support system, or who live with someone who uses one in their main home.
On and from 1 July 2026, the approved life support systems and their daily discounts are:
- Oxygen concentrator - 136.636 cents
- Peritoneal dialysis machine - 101.376 cents
- Haemodialysis machine - 101.376 cents
- Chronic positive pressure and airways regulator - 48.484 cents
- Continuous positive airways pressure machine - 48.484 cents
- Respirator (iron lung) -180.711 cents
- Combination oxygen concentrator and chronic positive pressure and airways regulator - 185.120 cents
- Phototherapy machine - 257.485 cents
- Left ventricular assist device - 48.484 cents
- Nebuliser machine (main powered only) - 13.702 cents.
Eligibility
- The electricity account holder must require, or live with a person who requires, an approved life support system in their principal place of residence.
- Application form must be certified by your medical practitioner and submitted to your electricity provider.

Medical cooling or heating concession
The medical cooling or heating concession provides a bill discount to eligible customers who have, or live with a person who has, a medical condition that requires the cooling or heating of the customer's principal place of residence in order to manage that condition.
From 1 July 2026, the concession is 55.216 cents per day or $201.54 per year (GST inclusive).
Eligibility
- Customers must be eligible to receive the annual electricity concession to qualify for the medical cooling or heating concession.
- The person residing at the residence have a medical condition with evidence-based association with the deterioration of this condition in temperature extremes, and
- Have a medical condition with evidence-based association with the deterioration of this condition in temperature extreme.
- The patient’s treating medical practitioner must certify that the patient is suffering from:
- One of the following core medical conditions; or
- Meets at least one primary and one secondary qualifying condition.
Core conditions
Examples of core medical conditions that qualify for the medical cooling or heating concession include, but are not limited to:
- Multiple sclerosis
- Lymphoedema
- Parkinson's disease
- Fibromyalgia
- Motor neurone disease
- Post polio syndrome/poliomyelitis
- Scleroderma
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
Primary qualifying conditions
- Autoimmune system dysfunction (medical conditions in which the autoimmune system has been damaged, such as severe spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury and neurodegenerative disorders).
- Loss of skin integrity or loss of sweating capacity, such as significant burns greater than 20 per cent, severe inflammatory skin conditions and some rare forms of disordered sweating.
- Objective reduction of physiological functioning at extremes of environmental temperatures.
- Hypersensitivity to extremes of environmental temperatures leading to increased pain or other discomfort or an increased risk of complications, such as advanced peripheral vascular disease.
Secondary qualifying conditions
- Severe immobility, such as occurs with quadriplegia or high-level paraplegia, resulting in problems with self-regulation of body temperature due to loss of sympathetic nervous system control.
- Demonstrated significant loss of autonomic regulation of sweating, heart rate or blood pressure due to the effects of extremes of temperature.
- Demonstrated loss of physiological function or significant aggravation of clinical condition at extremes of environmental temperature.
