      Concession available to anyone who meets the eligibility criteria

      Student fares of $1.70 (single trip) apply at all times, not just for travel to and from school. This concession applies to students who are:

      • under 18, or turning 18 in the year of study; and
      • a full-time student (600+ hours per year) enrolled at an education facility recognized by the Department of Education.

      Students travelling on a Metro and/or Tassielink service can travel at a discounted student fare of $1.36 (single trip) when using a Greencard.

      Students who travel on Merseylink urban services can access the discounted fare by using a Smart Card.

    • Student bus fares - non-urban areas

      Concession available to anyone who meets the eligibility criteria

      Student fares of $1.70 (single trip) apply at all times, not just for travel to and from school. This concession applies to students who are:

      • under 18, or turning 18 in the year of study; and
      • a full-time student (600+ hours per year) enrolled at an education facility recognized by the Department of Education.

      Students who are travelling on a service without an electronic ticketing system can purchase a 10-ride ticket at a discounted maximum cost of $13.60.

      Students who travel on a service with an electronic ticketing system can access a discounted fare of $1.36 with a Greencard (Metro and Tassielink) or Smart Card (Merseylink).

    • Adult student bus fares - urban areas

      Concession available to anyone who meets the eligibility criteria

      Adult concession fares of $2.20 (single flat fare) apply at all times, not just for travel to and from school. A further 20 per cent discount is available on the presentation of a Greencard (Metro and Tassielink) or Smart Card (Merseylink). These fares are available to adult students who are:

      • aged 18 or older at 1 January in the year of study; and
      • a full-time student (600+ hours per year) enrolled at an education facility recognised by the Department of Education.

      A 50 per cent concession on the adult base fare applies at all times, not just for travel to and from an education facility, and is available to adult students who are:

      • aged 18 or older at 1 January in the year of study; and
      • a full-time student (600+ hours per year) enrolled at an education facility recognized by the Department of Education.

    • Student free travel - urban and urban fringe areas

      Concession available to anyone who meets the eligibility criteria

      A Student bus pass for free travel provides free travel on one or more fare charging bus services between home and school.  Free travel applies between 6:00 am and 7:00 pm on school days for students who are:

      • under 18, or turning 18 in the year of study; and
      • a full-time student (600+ hours per year)  enrolled at an education facility recognised by the Department of Education.

      and who meet one or more of the following eligibility criteria:

      • has a current Concession Card or listed as a dependent on the card
      • is under a Care and Protection Order
      • is attending their Home Area school
      • requires a Free Transfer pass as they travel on more than one fare charging bus service between home and school.

    • Adult student transport concessions - special circumstance

      Adult students may be eligible for a Special circumstance student bus pass which provides them with discounted travel on one or more fare charging bus services between 6:00 am and 7:00 pm on school days, if they meet the following criteria:

      • are aged 18, or older at 1 January in the year of study
      • are a full-time student (600+ hours per year) enrolled at an education facility recognised by the Department of Education
      • studying at a level that is no higher than is offered to any year 11 or 12 student at a senior secondary college

      and

      • have not had the opportunity to complete the equivalent of two years post-year 10 study due to circumstances beyond their control.

      If the student holds a current Concession Card, they may be eligible to travel for free.

    • Apprentice and trainee travel allowances for off-the-job training

      Concession available to anyone who meets the eligibility criteria

      A travel allowance of 41 cents per kilometre (45 cents for students living on the West Coast) may be payable to:

      • apprentices and trainees who have to travel more than 42 kilometres return to attend off-the-job training.

      Where apprentices and trainees are required to travel within Tasmania for training, an accommodation allowance of $40 per day (to a maximum of $200 per week) is available to:

      • apprentices and trainees who have to travel more than 40 kilometres each way to attend training with a registered training organisation within Tasmania.

      Where apprentices and trainees are required to travel from Flinders Island, King Island and Cape Barren Island, an accommodation allowance of $40 per day is available, including weekends, if attending for two or three weeks. The Tasmanian Government will:

      • provide $52 towards airport transfer and
      • pay the full cost of return airfares paid for travel to attend their Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in Tasmania.

      Where apprentices and trainees are required to travel to the mainland for training, the Tasmanian Government will (to a maximum amount of $5 000 per calendar year):

      • contribute to the cost of airfares
      • provide $52 towards airport transfer and
      • pay an accommodation allowance of $72 a day.

    • Conveyance allowance

      Concession available to anyone who meets the eligibility criteria

      An allowance to assist with the cost of transporting students to the nearest school or school bus service is available to students:

      • who live five kilometres or more from the nearest school or school bus stop (whichever is closer)
      • with special needs who are unable to access public transport
      • living on Bass Strait islands and attending their closest educationally appropriate school or college on mainland Tasmania.

      No fare is charged for travelling between home and school within rural areas for students who are:

      • under 18, or turning 18 in the year of study; and
      • a full-time student (600+ hours per year) enrolled at an education facility recognised by the Department of Education.

      • Tasmanian Seniors Card holders
      • Tasmanian Companion Card holders.

      The Transport Access Scheme (TAS) assists people with a life-long permanent and severe disability which affects mobility.

      An Australian Disability Parking Permit entitles TAS members to utilise disability parking spots and additional time in areas controlled by parking signs (including parking meters).

      A 50 per cent concession on the cost of taxi travel is available to people:

      • with a permanent and severe disability who have been assessed as meeting eligibility criteria for membership of the Transport Access Scheme

      have a:

      • DHS or DVA Pensioner Concession Card
      • DHS Health Care Card or
      • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card.

      A maximum subsidy of $25 per single journey applies.

    • Transport access scheme - 60 per cent concession

      A 60 per cent concession on the cost of travel in a wheelchair accessible taxi is available to people:

      • with a permanent and severe disability who have been assessed as meeting eligibility criteria for membership of the Transport Access Scheme, and who are totally wheelchair reliant.

      A maximum subsidy of $30 per single journey applies.

      Participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) are not eligible for taxi subsidy.

      A 50 per cent concession on the adult base fare is available to visually impaired people who have a:

      • Vision Impaired Person's Travel Pass issued by the Transport Commission.

      Applicants for this card must hold a current DHS Pensioner Concession Card endorsed for Disability Support Pension Blind or Age Blind Pension, or a DVA (Blind) Pension.

      The concession is also available to an accompanying mobility instructor authorised by Guide Dogs Tasmania.

      The Bruny Island Ferry service offers discounts to the following concession types:

      • DHS, DVA Pensioner Concession Card
      • DHS, DVA Seniors Health Card
      • DVA Health Card – All conditions (“Gold Card”) inscribed with ‘TPI’
      • Companion Card – all states and territories.

      The driver must be the primary card holder, except for the Companion Card, to access the concession rate.
