Annual electricity concession
The annual electricity concession provides a daily discount to eligible customers as a cents per day rate. The current concession is 184.347 cents per day and available to:
- Eligible concession card holders.
- ImmiCard (Bridging Visa E) holders.
To apply for the annual electricity concession, eligible customers should contact their electricity retailer by telephone or complete the Application Form.

A reduction on local government rates to the lesser of the capped amount or 30% is available as of 1 July, each year.
Eligibility:
- Hold an eligible concession card.
- Reside at the property as their principal place of residence.
- Is legally responsible to the council for the rates of the property.

Embedded network electricity concessions
Introduction
The Tasmanian Government provides electricity concessions to eligible residents who live in an embedded electricity network and do not receive an electricity concession from an electricity retailer or embedded network operator.
Embedded networks may operate in retirement villages, caravan parks and residential complexes where the site owner or network operator supplies and bills residents for electricity.
Available concessions
Eligible residents can apply for one or more of the following concessions:

Only one payment for each concession type can be made to a household in each financial year.
The 2026-27 rates apply to applications made by 30 June 2027.
General Eligibility
To be eligible you must:
- live in a residential property supplied with electricity through an embedded network
- use the property as your principal place of residence
- be named on the electricity bill issued by the embedded network operator
- have an individually metered electricity connection
- receive an itemised bill showing the residential address, meter details, electricity use and charges
- not receive an electricity concession from an electricity retailer or embedded network operator.
Applicants will be required to provide evidence of their general eligibility, which will be validated each year of the program.
You are not eligible if you pay a fixed amount for electricity as part of your rent.
You must apply and provide evidence of your eligibility each financial year.
Additional eligibility requirements
Low-income embedded network electricity rebate
You must hold one of the following:
- a low-income Health Care Card issued by Services Australia
- a Pensioner Concession Card issued by Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs
- an eligible Bridging E visa ImmiCard
- a Tasmanian Concession Card for community detention.
Medical cooling or heating concession
You or someone who lives with you must:
- have an eligible medical condition that requires cooling or heating
- hold a low-income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card issued by Services Australia
- have the medical condition certified by a medical practitioner.
Life support concession
You or someone who lives with you must use an approved home-based life support device at your principal place of residence.
A medical practitioner must certify that the device is required.
What you need to apply
You will need to provide:
- evidence of your identity and eligibility
- a recent itemised electricity bill from your embedded network operator
- any required medical certification
- bank account details in your name
- a bank statement or account confirmation letter verifying those details.

Medical certification for the medical cooling or heating concession and life support concession is generally valid for four years.

You can apply:
- online for an embedded network electricity concession
- in person at a Service Tasmania service centre using a paper application form.
If applying in person, take your completed application form and supporting documents to Service Tasmania.

Child students always pay a flat rate, not just for travel to and from school. The fare is the same regardless of distance or location. This concession applies to students who are:
- under 18 years or turning 18 years in the year of study, and
- a full-time student (600+ hours per year) enrolled at an education facility recognised by the Department for Education, Children and Young People.
A further 20% discount is applied when using a smartcard like Greencard, or Transportme, or a 10-trip ticket, where available.
