Eligibility for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (DVA CSHC) is determined by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).

The DVA CSHC is different to the Seniors Card issued by the Tasmanian Government.

The DVA provides a DVA CSHC to:

  • Australian, Commonwealth or allied veterans with qualifying service
  • Australian or allied mariners of World War 2 with qualifying service
  • partners (including widows and widowers) of veterans or mariners with qualifying service
  • war widows or widowers including wholly dependent partners under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA).

To be eligible you must:

  • meet the relevant age criteria
  • be an Australian resident and residing in Australia
  • not be receiving income support from DVA
  • not be receiving income support from the Department of Human Services (DHS) or hold a DHS CSHC and
  • meet the CSHC income test. There is no assets test.

Please note the DVA CSHC does not provide access to DVA’s health care arrangements.

DVA Unique Identification Number (UIN)

In addition to listing your DVA file number (eg TX123456), the DVA PCC and DVA CSHC also lists your Unique Identification Number (UIN). The addition of the UIN will assist concession providers to quickly determine a DVA client’s concession eligibility if there are difficulties with their computer systems matching against DVA records.
